Finding the extraordinary in ordinary lives

Robert J. Flood was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1948. After serving in the United States Air Force, he spent thirty-five years working as an aerospace engineer while raising a family with his wife, Patricia.

Flood began writing seriously after his retirement in 2010, drawing on a lifetime of careful observation and the stories that had been accumulating in his memory for decades. His work has appeared in various literary journals, and A Nice Piece of Flying is his first published collection.

He continues to live in Kansas with Patricia. When not writing, he can be found at the local airfield, where he still holds a private pilot's license and occasionally takes to the sky.

"I've always believed that the most important stories are the ones happening right in front of us," Flood says. "You don't need to go far to find something worth writing about. You just need to pay attention."
